Phoenix Man Who Decapitated Wife, Killed Dogs Gets 29 Years

Kenneth Wakefield, who pleaded guilty in February, had been using an insanity defense since killing his wife and dogs almost three years ago

PHOENIX, AZ – It started almost three years ago when Trina Heisch came home and discovered that her husband had killed their two dogs. He had decapitated one of them.

Heisch and her husband, Kenneth Wakefield, started arguing.

A neighbor, concerned about what might be going on, walked over and discovered the dead dogs. He also found Heisch dead, having been decapitated.

Police determined that he had been high on methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana.

That was in July 2015.

Wakefield originally mounted an insanity defense but was later found to be mentally fit for trial.

In February, he pleaded guilty and, on Friday, he received 29 years in prison – 25 years for second degree murder and two years each for the dogs that he killed.
