Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. Phoenix has been chosen as one of five key hubs in the United States for manufacturing jobs, focusing on areas such as semiconductors, renewable energy, and electric vehicles, as announced by the White House. The decision was made due to significant public and private investments in these sectors within the Phoenix metro area. The Biden administration plans to collaborate with various stakeholders, including local officials, employers, unions, schools, and colleges, to establish a talent pipeline tailored to the region's requirements and enhance apprenticeship programs and supportive services for underrepresented individuals. 2. Phoenix has allocated $3.5 million in federal funds for the implementation of tree and shade canopy programs, marking the second time in a year that such investments have been made to benefit neighborhoods disproportionately affected by COVID-19. Following the previous allocation of $6 million in June 2022, which targeted lower-income areas, the City Council approved the new funds on May 31, creating two grant programs. The first program, the Community Canopy Grant Program, will provide trees and supplies to nonprofits, community members, and neighborhood groups, while the second program, the Shade for Students Grant Program, will offer funding for shade structures to public school districts, youth community centers, and after-school or summer program nonprofits. 3. The Phoenix Theatre Company is welcoming those of all skill levels to participate in its Summer of Dance program, which offers eight weeks of adult dance classes for individuals aged 15 to 80. With a focus on dance exploration and skill development rather than competition, participants can choose from various dance styles, including hip-hop, musical theatre, tap, and contemporary, taught by experienced choreographers. Whether seeking to enhance dance abilities or simply stay active, anyone can join regardless of prior experience, with both season passes and drop-in options available.
