Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a Phoenix police officer was seriously injured in a collision near 40th and Oak streets after their marked patrol vehicle was hit by another driver. The patrol car sustained significant damage, leaving the officer trapped inside, and requiring Phoenix Fire Department to extract them. Although the officer's injuries were serious, they were not life-threatening, and the suspects who fled the scene have since been apprehended, with the cause of the crash currently under investigation. - According to the Phoenix Police Department, a bomb threat near 15th and Desert Cove avenues led to the evacuation of several homes in north Phoenix on Tuesday night. The bomb squad determined that the device in question was not explosive, and residents were allowed to return to their homes. The investigation continues and Phoenix Police Department officers are working to uncover how the device ended up in that location. (12news.com KPNX)
- The demand for homes built exclusively for renters is rising, leading to an increase in "build to rent" communities across the nation, particularly in Arizona. These communities, such as Avilla Enclave in Mesa (about 30 minutes from Phoenix), offer upscale single-family rental properties, providing renters with the lifestyle of a home without the burden of homeownership. The concept is gaining popularity among millennials, midlife transition couples, and singles who seek more space than an apartment can afford, without dealing with the maintenance headaches of owning a home.
