Phoenix PD Has Identified Woman Found Dead In Canal In August
The Phoenix Police Department today identified the woman found dead Aug. 28 in a Phoenix canal as 35-year-old Shameka Mitchell.

PHOENIX, AZ – Around 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 28, a lifeless woman’s body was found floating in a canal near 900 E. Campbell Ave. in Phoenix. A police report said that no signs of trauma were observed on the body, which was taken to the Maricopa Medical Examiner’s Office to identify what caused the woman’s death. Police today reported that the victim has been identified as 35-year-old Shameka Mitchell, and that investigation of her cause of death is still underway.
Meanwhile, Mitchell’s sister-in-law Amber Beacham posted an $800 GoFundMe campaign Sept. 8, in which she wrote that Mitchell “… was tragically murdered.” Beacham's GoFundMe campaign has garnered $25 so far, and raises money for Mitchell’s funeral services. “We greatly appreciate anything that helps. And please keep her and our family in your prayers for strength to get [through] this tragedy,” wrote Beacham in the campaign.
