Phoenix Police Identify Motorcyclist Killed In Flaming Crash

Police have released the name of a Phoenix motorcyclist killed in a fiery crash with a vehicle at 23rd Avenue and McDowell Road Saturday.

PHOENIX, AZ — Police Monday identified the motorcyclist killed in a fiery crash at the 23rd Avenue and McDowell Road intersection Saturday as Spencer McBurney, 23.

The accident happened shortly after midnight Saturday when a vehicle was headed south on 23rd Avenue into the intersection at the same time McBurney entered the intersection after failing to stop at the McDowell Road red light. The vehicle erupted in flames upon impact, police reported.

The vehicle’s two passengers didn’t sustain serious injuries from the collision and were removed safely from the vehicle. However, McBurney’s injuries from the crash left him dead at the scene.

Police evaluated the vehicle’s driver, whom they determined wasn't impaired at the time of the accident.
