Phoenix Police Officer Shoots Accused Armed Robber In Leg
Tuesday night a 27-year-old man holding a knife tried to rob a male waiting for a bus, then came toward an officer, who shot him in the leg.
PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenix Police Department Sergeant Mercedes Fortune today reported that around 7:30 p.m. Monday, Phoenix police were notified of an attempted armed robbery near 43rd Avenue and W. Camelback Road. The suspect had tried to rob a male victim who was waiting for a bus, and threatened the victim with a knife.
The first officer to get to the scene saw a man walking in a nearby parking lot while brandishing a knife. The officer commanded the 27-year-old man to drop the knife. Instead of dropping the knife, the suspect moved toward the officer. Next was the sound of a gunshot as the officer fired, injuring the suspect’s leg.
The suspect was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening wound. No one else was harmed in the incident.

The Phoenix PD has not yet released the suspect's name and won’t until after he is booked. The victim's and officer's names haven't been released either, but the officer was described as a 31 year old with one year of service.
