Phoenix Police Shoot Armed Man Who Was Arguing With Wife

An armed man in Phoenix was shot by police after he pointed a gun at them. He had been arguing with his wife. He's expected to survive.

PHOENIX, AZ – A man in Phoenix was shot by officers Tuesday night after pointing a gun at officers. He is expected to survive his injuries.

Officers were called to a mobile home park by 368 North 21st Avenue around 8:00 p.m. after received calls about shots being fired in the area.

Officers arrived and saw the man facing away from him. They say that he had a handgun in each hand.

Police say that he was told to drop the guns. Instead, they say that he turned around and pointed the guns a the officers. (Get Phoenix Patch's daily newsletter and real-time news alerts. Or, find your local Patch here and subscribe).

One officer – a 29-year-old who has been with the department for three years – fired his duty rifle, striking the man who was then taken into custody and rushed to the hospital.

His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Officers learned that the 42-year-old man had been arguing with his wife when he grabbed the guns and stormed out of their trailer. Shots were then heard being fired.

The man's wife and daughter went outside to confront him. Police say that he responded by firing another shot and then pointing one of the guns at his wife.

That's when police showed up.

The incident was the 31st officer-involved shooting in the Valley this year and the 40th in the state.
