Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- A Phoenix resident who faced homelessness, Angelica Wells, was gifted a 2020 Kia Sol through the collaborative efforts of Family Promise of Greater Phoenix, the National Auto Body Council, Painters Collision Center, and Geico. Wells, who became a mother after adopting her nephews following her sister's passing, found herself struggling financially and without a home. Family Promise of Greater Phoenix provided support and selected Wells as the recipient of the donated vehicle, surprising her with a $1,000 gas card as well. (Daily Independent)
- To honor Elisa Dillon's contributions to animal welfare, the Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) is waiving adoption fees for all pets through Jun. 30. The AAWL offers dogs and cats that have been vaccinated, microchipped, spayed/neutered, evaluated for behavior and medical conditions, and treated for fleas and ticks. Adoption centers are located at the Sonia Breslow Adoption Center in Phoenix and the Chandler Fashion Center, and onsite cat adoptions are available at Petsmart locations in Scottsdale and Phoenix. - Jim Currier, the President of Electronic Solutions at Honeywell Aerospace, has been appointed as the new CEO, replacing the retiring Mike Madsen. Currier, who has been with the company since 2006, will assume his new role on Aug. 1 and will report directly to Honeywell International Inc.'s CEO, Vimal Kapur. Throughout his tenure, Currier has held various leadership positions, including President of the aftermarket business for Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India, as well as Vice President of Business Development for engines and power systems.
