PHOENIX – The Phoenix Police Department has identified the suspect who died after locking employees and customers inside a Circle K Store at 5105 W. McDowell Road in Phoenix Sunday. Police say the suspect was 49-year-old Alexander Brown, who pushed customers in the convenience store and exhibited paranoia and erratic behavior. Brown looked like he was impaired too, according to a police report by Phoenix PD Sergeant Vincent Lewis. Police officers arrived after the customers and staff escaped the store locked down by Brown, who resisted arrest but was taken into custody after the struggle.

Once inside the police vehicle, Brown purposely struck his head on the vehicle’s interior. Police then called the Phoenix Fire Department to take a look at Brown and assess his behavior. While fire department members were evaluating Brown, he became “unresponsive” and the fire department took him out of the patrol vehicle.

Brown was then taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. No Circle K customers were harmed nor were any officers. The police who took part in the incident were all suited with body-worn cameras that filmed the entire event.
