Postal Service Driver Dies When Box Truck Hits Vehicle: Police

The United States Postal Service driver was pulled over next to a mail box when the box truck hit it, police said.

PHOENIX, AZ — One man is dead and another is injured after a box truck hit a United States Postal Service vehicle that was pulled over next to a mail box Tuesday evening.

The driver of the postal service vehicle, 59-year-old Michael Blanton, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the box truck, a 35-year-old man who police did not identify, was hospitalized for serious injuries.

The collision happened around 6:18 p.m. Tuesday, near the intersection of 52nd Street and McDowell Road, according to police.

The postal service vehicle was pulled over on the south side of the road next to a mail box when the box truck that was headed south hit the postal service vehicle from behind, according to police. The postal service vehicle then caught fire, police said.
