Scottsdale Plane Crash: NTSB Briefs On Crash That Killed Six

The plane crashed on the TPC Scottsdale Champions Golf Course around 9 p.m., officials say. Six people were on board. No one survived.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ – The National Transportation Safety Board says that the plane that crashed Monday night on the TPC Scottsdale Champions Course will likely be removed early Tuesday evening. All six people on the plane were killed in the crash.

The NTSB is spending Tuesday gathering whatever evidence that they can from the scene. The plane will then be moved to a facility outside of Phoenix for forensic examination. They expect to have a preliminary report on the crash done within two weeks but the full, final report could take up to 18 months.

The plane, which took off from Runway 3, crashed around 9 p.m. on the golf course by Bell and North Hayden Roads.

The FAA says that the plane was a Piper PA24. The NTSB elaborated, saying that it was a 1970 Piper Comanche. One of the questions that they will answer is whether it was properly outfitted to seat six people. (Get Phoenix Patch's daily newsletter and real-time news alerts. The plane was headed to North Las Vegas Airport. The NTSB says that the identities of the people on the plane will be released by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office after autopsies are completed.

Several people posted pictures to social media of the plane on fire.

According to the National Weather Service, conditions were clear with only a slight wind at the time of the crash.

Scottsdale Fire and Police Departments responded.

The NTSB is being assisted by the Scottsdale Fire Department, the Federal Aviation Administration and other agencies.

The Champions course where the plane crashed is one of two at TPC Scottsdale. The other course, the Stadium, is where the Waste Management Phoenix Open is played.
