Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:

  1. In a significant breakthrough in a 1996 Phoenix rape cold case, police have arrested Robert Silva, the second suspect involved. This follows the earlier arrest of David Alec Espindola, Silva's uncle, earlier this month. Both men are connected to the brutal assault of a 23-year-old woman in 1996, with DNA evidence linking them to the crime. (Arizona's Family)
  2. In Phoenix, the historic Arnold Pickle House has been repurposed by the nonprofit Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC) into a small business incubator for underprivileged entrepreneurs. Once a family-owned pickle factory from the 1920s, the site at 14th and Van Buren streets, acquired and renovated by CPLC using state grant funds, now features advanced tools and resources for budding businesses. Core Collective Fitness has already secured a lease for a portion of the 15,000-square-foot space. (KTAR.com)
  3. FashFilmFete, an acclaimed film festival dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices in cinema and celebrating the intersection of fashion and film, is set to return to the Phoenix Art Museum on Sep. 23. This year, the event spotlights the groundbreaking achievements of renowned costume designers Ruth E. Carter and Patricia Field, both of whom are set to receive the 2023 Costume Design Career Achievement Award. With an exciting lineup of films on the agenda, attendees can also look forward to a feature on Field titled “Happy Clothes,” and a selection of films from various directors vying for FashFilmFete awards.
