Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- A man was hospitalized with serious injuries following a shooting at Desert Sky Mall in west Phoenix on Tuesday evening. Phoenix police responded to the incident at 75th Avenue and Thomas Road around 8:30 p.m. and detained two adults at the scene, though their involvement remains unclear as investigations continue. The motive behind the shooting is yet to be determined. (Arizona's Family)
- Powerful storms ravaged the Phoenix area on Tuesday night through early Wednesday morning, resulting in flash floods, downed power poles in central regions, and leaving over 6,000 residents without electricity. Alongside significant property damage, central Phoenix experienced hail as large as golf balls. In nearby Mesa, notable damage at Falcon Field Park led to the cancellation of classes at Zaharis Elementary. While another round of storms is expected, Phoenix is set to see drier and warmer conditions by week's end, according to meteorologist April Warneck. (Arizona's Family)
- After 19 years, a cold case involving an unidentified victim of a 2004 hit-and-run in Phoenix has been solved through DNA testing. Amelia Muñoz Loera, originally from Mexico, remained a mystery until the DNA Doe Project undertook an exhaustive 1,300-hour investigation, finally linking her identity when her niece uploaded DNA to FamilyTreeDNA. Although Loera's identity has been confirmed, the perpetrator of the hit-and-run remains at large. (12news.com KPNX)
