Byfield was stationed at Fort Huachuca, outside of Tucson, for Army training when investigators in August 2020 found that he had searched for and found pictures and videos of young children engaging in sexually explicit conduct, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona.

Byfield was placed on a computer monitoring program as a condition of his release from jail. He pleaded guilty on Dec. 3, 2020 to one count of possession of child pornography.
