Three Shot, Two Killed Within An Hour In Two Phoenix Shootings

Two of the men were struck when someone shot into a large group of people near 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street, police said.

PHOENIX, AZ — Within less than an hour on Monday evening three men were shot and two of them died in two separate shootings in Phoenix.

Joshua Hernandez Jr., 31, was shot around 7:05 p.m. near the intersection of 16th and Roosevelt streets, according to police. Hernandez was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital after being driven there by a friend, police said.

Police were looking for witnesses on Monday night and were still working to figure out what led up to the shooting.

Less than an hour later, around 7:50 p.m., someone fired a handgun into a large group of people near 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street, hitting two men, according to police.

Adam Martinez, 42, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, according to police. The other man was also taken to a hospital for an injury that police said was not life threatening.
