PHOENIX — President Donald Trump is set to hold a rally in Phoenix on Tuesday at the Dream City Church auditorium on Cave Creek Road.

Before making his way to the church for the rally, Trump will make a visit to Yuma to see the border wall and engage with local leaders and the surrounding community, KTAR reports.

His visit comes in the wake of Arizona's highest-yet peak in new coronavirus cases and mandates across the Phoenix metro and Maricopa County requiring residents to wear masks when in public.

Trump's rally at Dream City Church is set to kick off at 1:30 p.m., and the president is expected to make his appearance at 3:40 p.m., according to KTAR.

Masks Are Required In Phoenix And Maricopa County

The City of Phoenix and Maricopa County have both announced masks are required when in public and when physical distance can't be maintained, but Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said the city will not be focused on enforcing mask usage during the rally.

Gallego said in an interview on CNN that if Trump chooses not to wear a mask, "we're not going to cite the President of the United States, but we would ask our elected officials and other types of leaders to lead by example."

Testing

During Trump's recent rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, attendees were encouraged to get a test for the new coronavirus before and after the rally, Wolf Blitzer said during his interview with Gallego.

Blitzer asked the mayor if Phoenix residents are encouraged to get tested in similar fashion, but Gallego said the city does not have the capacity to test that many residents.

“Unfortunately we don’t have the testing capacity to make that possible right now," she said. "I’m deeply concerned about the lack of testing in my community…”

Traffic

Phoenix police declined to share Trump's travel plans for safety reasons.

"For safety reasons, we don’t discuss road closures or law enforcement response related to Presidential travel and visits," a police spokesperson told Patch. "The Phoenix Police Department is prepared for this event, and we look forward to a peaceful and successful evening."

Dream City Church Caught Off Guard

The rally will be held Tuesday at Dream City Church Auditorium. In a statement, the church said it did not know Trump would be speaking during the event when it chose to rent the auditorium to Turning Point Action, the organization behind the rally.

"Dream City’s facility rental does not constitute endorsement of the opinions of its renters," the church wrote in a statement, in part. "Each facility rental is a means to generate funds so that Dream City may continue to carry out its outreach vision – to reach the hurting and needy in the community for Jesus Christ. Please join Dream City in praying that the church may continue to effectively carry out that mission."
