Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:

  1. Walmart plans to expand its health footprint and make its Arizona debut with six new health centers planned in the Valley. On Thursday, it was announced that Walmart Health will be opening 28 more health centers in 2024, rising the national total to 80 locations. Offering convenient and affordable health services is major for those who need health care but are limited in resources. Walmart is hopeful that with an extension of these services and facilities, patients will stay on top of their medications and health and need to make fewer trips to the hospital. (KTAR.com)
  2. Around 2:20 a.m. on Thursday, Phoenix police were called to 48th Street and McDowell in response to a shooting where they found two men who had been shot outside a 7-Eleven. Both individuals were rushed to a local hospital where one of the victims, 27-year-old Kevin Turner, was pronounced dead. Detectives later determined that an argument ensued between the two victims and another individual who was later tracked down and arrested. (Arizona's Family)
  3. Hospital program 1 Darn Cool School gives a traditional classroom setting or bedside schooling to children who spend long days at the Phoenix Children's Hospital for various health complications. The program recently received major support from the Dessert Financial Foundation and the Dessert Financial Credit Union through a $1 million donation to the program as well as a $5,000 scholarship to program graduate Yeira Hernandez for her education at Arizona State University. The program will be using some of the money to bring in eight full-time master's level teachers to support the program's students. (Arizona's Family)
