Woman Hospitalized After Fire Breaks Out At Phoenix Nursing Home
A fire broke out at a Phoenix nursing home late Tuesday, forcing over 100 to be evacuated and critically injuring an elderly woman.
PHOENIX — An elderly woman has been hospitalized in critical condition after a fire broke out at her downtown Phoenix nursing home late Tuesday.
The Phoenix Fire Department said it responded to a first-alarm fire at approximately 8 p.m. at Washington Manor, a nursing home near 11th and Van Buren Streets. About 100 elderly residents were evacuated.
The fire was contained to an apartment on the building's third floor, where firefighters found a woman unconscious on her floor. The fire appeared to have started in the kitchen and several cabinets were burning.

She was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition, according to the department. No other details were made available about the woman. No one else was injured by the fire.
An investigation into the cause is currently underway.
