Here are the top three stories today in Scottsdale:
- The Scottsdale Society of Women Writers reaches is celebrating its 17th anniversary. The 70 members have been participating in virtual meetings for over two years as a result of the pandemic, but that hasn't stopped them from inspiring and creating. The group has speakers from every genre who come and speak about writing as an art and a business. Meetings are free and there are new speakers monthly. For more information, check the link. - Eight million fentanyl pills have been seized throughout the Phoenix area — and this bust could have a significant impact on communities in surrounding towns and cities as well. The seizure is part of a nationwide effort to crack down on fentanyl pills and powders which have become increasingly prevalent. There were over 390 raids conducted nationwide, although most of them took place in Arizona. Officials hope this seizure will help cut down on the drug problem throughout Phoenix, Scottsdale, and other communities. (Arizona's Family)
- A Phoenix man on meth has been arrested for setting a fire in a PetSmart. Richard Gutierrez Jr. was apprehended after he allegedly walked into the popular pet store chain and used a lighter to set two bags of dog food on fire. Employees noticed the smell almost immediately and were able to put out the flames before they could do any damage. Gutierrez admitted to the crime when he was later questioned by police. He is also a suspect in an unrelated arson case. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
