Here are the top three stories today in Scottsdale:
- Rachel Mitchell and Julie Gunnigle, two candidates in the race to lead Maricopa County Attorney's Office, debated each other on Friday morning. Maricopa County's office is one of the largest prosecutorial agencies in the United States. The office handles more than 10,000 cases each year with about 400 lawyers. Click to watch the debate. - The Scottsdale Police Department reports that a woman staying at an Old Town Scottsdale short-term rental was shot on Friday morning. The department responded to the residence near Hayden and McDowell roads around 4:00 a.m. to find the woman with at least two gunshot wounds. Early investigations indicate that the shooting was isolated and that the individuals knew each other. (AZ Family)
- The Scottsdale Police Department is increasing compensation for new and existing officers. The increases will result in new officers making $66,768 a year. Existing officers will receive a 5 percent increase. The department is currently searching for individuals to fill 30 openings. The department hopes that the pay increase will help recruitment and retention efforts. (AZ Family)
