Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:
- Traffic Note: I-10 in Phoenix will be closed in both directions between SR-51 and SR-143 from 10 p.m. April 22 to 4 a.m. April 25. Click the blue link for more information on the utility relocation work related closures. (City of Scottsdale, Facebook)
- Did you know a single Scottsdale resident adopted two highways in the Valley? If not, let me introduce you to Julie Tuomistobell, a yoga instructor and community cleanup aficionado. Tuomistobell pours her time and energy into keeping Scottsdale clear of litter on highways, trails, in cemeteries and just about anywhere! Through Instagram photos of her progress, she hopes to inspire other residents to keep our desert oasis clean and healthy. (Arizona's Family)
- George Kurtz, the billionaire co-founder and CEO of cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, bought Scottsdale's CrackerJax amusement park land. The 28 acres sold for $55.5 million on Wednesday, bought from the previous owners, the Herberger's, a prominent Scottsdale family. Kurtz aims to transform the mini golf, go-karts and batting cages complex into a "mixed-use campus" drawing in venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, and others interested in advancing Scottsdale's technology sector. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
- There is a new company holiday at Kendra Scott HQ — Mother's Day! The Scottsdale Quarter brand store was founded by Scott when her son was still an infant, so the tolls of parenting and working are not lost on her. To celebrate mothers, fathers, and caregivers, Monday, May 9 is a paid holiday according the new “Take the Time” initiative. (Daily Independent)
- The Lighthouse Artspace in Old Town Scottsdale was flooded with guests visiting the Immersive Van Gogh. It was such a success, Lighthouse Artspace added Immersive Klimt to its collection last month. The Klimt experience is drastically different from the Van Gogh experience, due to the difference is style and tone in the men's respective works. Although Klimt's young protégée, Egon Schiele, is featured, that does not mean young ones should visit the collection. Klimt and Schiele often depict nudity and sexuality. Although the imagines are far from obscene, Lighthouse Artspace discourages bringing children. (Phoenix New Times)
