Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. YouTuber Jake Paul will not face charges in connection to the May 2020 Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall riots. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona said that the 23-year-old internet celebrity could not be charged with evidence available — which is video footage of Paul at the mall during looting activities last May. He could, however, still face misdemeanor charges from the Scottsdale Police Department. (KPNX 12 News)
  2. The Scottsdale City Council approved just over $1.9 million to help organizations like Phoenix Rescue Mission and Scottsdale Works Brick by Brick. The fund aims to build a better future for the city through advancement of nonprofits, social service agencies, preservation of natural spaces, and more . Some donors to the grant include: Scottsdale Cares, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, and local Scottsdale residents. (City Sun Times)
  3. Award-winning Fellow Master Photographer Shelley Franklin is showcasing her 50/50 Project at Franklin Studios. The Scottsdale photographer — who is one of only five people worldwide to hold the title of "Fellow" with the Portrait Masters — focuses her most recent project on 50 women over 50-years-old. The project aims not to simply photograph these women, but to demonstrate how "aging is not something to dread but to embrace". (Free: Franklin Studios, Subscription: Daily Independent)
  4. Scottsdale Community College Interim President, Chris Haines, announces her retirement for January 2022. After 38 years in higher education, Haines achieved significant positions of leadership and community service.
