Here are the top 3 stories today in Scottsdale:
- A Scottsdale legislator is attempting to eliminate state funding for Arizona PBS due to the way the station handled the recent gubernatorial debate. Republican Representative John Kavanagh criticized the station’s decision to air an interview with Democrat Katie Hobbs after she declined the opportunity to debate Republican Kari Lake. Kavanagh claimed the move “smacks of party politics” and expressed concern that it could encourage future candidates to refuse debates without fear of forfeiting airtime. (East Valley Tribune)
- The Scottsdale Police Department arrested two women for their involvement in conning a special needs victim into giving them his wallet last month. The theft occurred on Sep. 25 at a Fry’s location where the victim was working when he was approached by 18-year-olds Paradise Adams and Pearl Mitchell. Officials say the suspects convinced the victim to exchange his wallet for a non-working iPhone before using the victim’s debit card to make unauthorized transactions of over $700. - A Scottsdale photo artist was featured this week at a gallery show in Argentina. 12 of Audrey Szoke’s still-life photos are currently on display at the prestigious Hoy en el Arte Galeria in Buenos Aires. The current show had its grand opening on Oct. 11 and runs through Oct. 28. (citysuntimes)
