Here are the top stories today in Scottsdale:
- The Scottsdale Police Department released bodycam footage of a traffic stop that yielded the seizure of a stolen gun, nearly a thousand fentanyl pills, and other drug paraphernalia. Those inside the vehicle were arrested. There are currently no further updates. (Fox 10)
- Most of you have heard about the rise of catalytic converter thefts. Because they contain metals such as latinum, palladium and rhodium, catalytic converters can be very valuable for thieves. Scottsdale and the Midas garage got together to host a catalytic converter theft prevention event, in which converters were painted a bright orange and etch the vehicle's VIN and plate number onto it. Further, Gov. Doug Ducey signed legislation making the possession of used converters illegal in an effort to deter theft. (Scottsdale Progress)
- Scottsdale-based Taser development company, Axon, announced that it is halting plans to develop a Taser-equipped drone. After the company reportedly proceeded with the project after its artificial intelligence ethics board voted 8-4 against, a majority of Axon's board resigned. CEO Rick Smith said he hopes to continue conversations around the project and find answers and solutions to issues raised by the board. (AZ Family)
- Check those lottery numbers! Someone bought a winning ticket at the Bashas on East Indian School Road in Scottsdale over the weekend. If your ticket has the winning numbers ( 4, 9, 10, 27, 39, 40) then you just won $1.4 million! (Patch)
- A recent study by WalletHub found that Arizona is the 8th best state for racial equality in education. Our shining state is first in "Share of Adults with at Least a High School Degree", eighth for "Share of Adults with at Least a Bachelor’s Degree", and within the top 30 for all standardized tests. (Wallet Hub)
- After a quiet winter opening, Dad’s Modern Cocktails & Eatery in Scottsdale is making moves. The upscale dining and drinking venue prides itself on being family owned and family friendly — creating an eatery perfect for the neighborhood. Business partners, and fathers, Robert Eckhardt (Chef), Mike Anderson, and Bill Machiavello came together to create a "comfortable and casual place where [families] could enjoy elevated dishes in an all-ages environment."
