- Jonathan Riggs, a licensed massage therapist at Coyote Bodywork in Scottsdale, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a client. Although Riggs initially denied the claim, after police found his DNA on the victim, he confessed to it being "a mistake" and "a touch prohibited during massage therapy". Riggs was charged with one count of sexual assault and two counts of sexual abuse. (AZFamily)
- Scottsdale resident Dennis Duarte is featured in a new book, "Mended Wings," in which he recounts his time in the Vietnam War. The book, penned by Colin P. Cahoon, tells the story of 10 Vietnam War helicopter pilots who were injured in combat. Duarte's story, called “But for the Grace of God,” is the last chapter of the book. (Your Valley)
- Mortgage holders of over 500 Scottsdale properties can cancel their flood insurance due to map changes that took effect at the end of July. The Flood Control District of Maricopa County, with the cities of Scottsdale and Phoenix, asked FEMA to update its Flood Insurance Rate Maps for a portion of northwest Scottsdale and northeast Phoenix to make them more accurate. The update shrunk the 100-year floodplain area. (City of Scottsdale)
- Nearly $4 million in additional federal funding could be available for the Scottsdale Airport if the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act legislation becomes law. (Your Valley)
- A Maricopa County Superior Court judge ruled that the Arizona law banning COVID-19 mask mandates in schools is not yet in effect, meaning Phoenix Union High School District and other schools can still require masks. The budget bill making mask banning possible was passed by the Arizona Legislature on June 30. A Legislative Council, however, concluded that the measure is not enforceable until September 29.
