  1. World-class conductor Dmitry Polyakov is joining the Scottsdale Philharmonic as its full-time principal conductor. Polyakov has conducted major symphonies across Europe and won important international and national competitions. Not only does he represent the Moscow Conservatory musical school, but also holds two master’s degree diplomas in "operatic and symphonic conducting and composition" and "music teaching".   2. Scottsdale Unified Superintendent Dr. Scott Menzel joined about 80 other superintendents, 15 county school superintendents, and other educational heads from across the state are asking lawmakers for nearly $1 billion in additional school funding. The total is divided between special needs student resources, low-income student resources, workforce development programs, career and technical education programs, operational needs, replacement of aged busses, increased broadband access for rural schools, and more. Further, educators are looking to propose legislation allowing schools to spend more of this funding money each year. (Scottsdale Progress)
  3. Need a cheap lunch? Scottsdale Quarter's MIXT is handing out free salads tomorrow (Thursday) 11 a.m.-8 p.m. In exchange for the free meal, the San Francisco-based chain is asking diners to donate to Blue Watermelon Project. The local nonprofit founded by chef Charleen Badman, of Scottsdale's FnB restaurant, to help Valley kids learn to eat healthier. (MOUTH BY SOUTHWEST)
