Here are the top three stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. On Friday night, hundreds of spectators gathered at WestWorld of Scottsdale for the 11th annual Arizona Black Rodeo. Throughout the evening, 40 contestants participated in several different rodeo events that celebrate the rich history of cowboys and cowgirls of color. On Saturday, a "storytime" event called We Do Rodeo was held at WestWorld. According to staff, the mission of the Rodeo is "to promote an appreciation for cultural heritage while giving families a hands-on experience." (KOLD 13)
  2. The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has added $3.65 million to its HVAC repair and replacement fund. The fund's purpose is to assist low-income residents with air conditioning system malfunctions. The funds were part of the city's American Rescue Plan Act allocation. The fund has $8.65 million in total. (KTAR)
  3. A Scottsdale woman has started a mission titled "Oakley's Oath" to raise awareness about pet safety around contractors. Julie Kessler's dog, Oakley, died in an accident when contractors covered her backyard pool with a tarp while working on the roof. The mission is asking contractors to keep all doggy doors locked and to check if tarps will be used to cover pools. (Fox 10 Phoenix)
