Here are the top stories in Scottsdale today:
- Scottsdale City Council is considering extending a .2% sales tax, set to expire in 2025, to help maintain the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, Indian Bend Wash and other parks. A nine person advisory task force is tentatively planned to investigate the issue and offer recommendations. Most council members agree the tax should only be used for preservation and not other city needs. The task force consists of committee members, rather than a citizen work group. (Scottsdale Progress)
- Home buyers on platforms like Zillow, Offerpad, OpenDoor, and other so-called iBuyer sites lost millions of dollars despite a booming market. Typically, people buy up homes on these platforms in order to sell them at a profit later. But those plans are falling apart as iBuyer platforms and users realize the algorithms are wrong. And Scottsdale is no exception. The largest loss reported was a home in Scottsdale on North 50th Way — with the previous owner losing $192,612 on Zillow. (12news.com KPNX)
- Kasai Japanese Steakhouse owner Mike Russello is pairing with Arizonans For Children, a nonprofit that facilitates opportunities for marginalized children, to host a charity gold tournament. On June 6, the Silverado Golf Club will host the event for which 60 golfers already registered. The hope is to get 144 golfers and raise $15,000 to 20,000. (Scottsdale Progress)
- Looking for a summer job? Well then you are living in the right place! According to a report by WalletHub, Scottsdale is the fourth best city to find summer work. In terms of median income of part-time worker, Scottsdale ranks as the best. Scottsdale is even ranked third specifically for the youth job market. (WalletHub)
- Everyone, or nearly everyone, knows the game monopoly. And now, the game creators are sending Mr. Monopoly our way with the new Scottsdale edition of Monopoly. Famous board squares like Atlantic City, Boardwalk, and Park Place will be replaced by our local businesses, nonprofits, and landmarks. The game dedicated to 'The West’s Most Western Town' will launch in 2023. And residential input in being sought! You can send an email to scottsdale@toptrumps.com with your recommendations on what will truly capture a local feel. (AZ Big Media)
