'Sarge' Adopted After 628 Days At A Scottsdale Shelter
Sarge, a shepherd-pit bull mix, was finally adopted by a family after spending 628 days at Scottsdale's Foothills Animal Rescue.
SCOTTSDALE, AZ — After spending two Christmases and countless days at a Scottsdale shelter, Sarge is finally going home.
The 3-year-old shepherd-pit bull mix was adopted by a family Saturday from Foothills Animal Rescue. The shelter celebrated the news with a huge going-away party for its furry friend.
The shelter livestreamed the party on its Facebook page, which saw Sarge getting lots of toys, treats and attention.

Sarge's new parents said in an interview, also captured on video by the shelter, that they had recently lost their dog and had been searching for a new family member when they came across an article about Sarge.
When they met him and were able to foster him, they said he was an "amazing dog" and "so affectionate."

According to Arizona's Family, the shelter staff said that they believed Sarge had a hard time getting adopted because of his breed. He was brought there in April 2019.
Foothills Animal Rescue had hoped to have him in a new home by Christmas, but when that didn't happen, the shelter threw him a holiday celebration of his own and took him on a drive through Tempe's World of Illumination light show. Just a few days later, Sarge found his forever home.
"He got to the point where he thought this was his home, honestly," a member of the shelter's staff said. "He loved it here."
