- Twelve juveniles, all of which are students at Mohave Middle School and Saguaro High School, are in custody after a series of violent events. Five of the juveniles were arrested for their involvement in a fight on Aug. 18 in the Bashas' parking lot near Granite Reef Road and McDonald Drive. Four of the juveniles were arrested for allegedly robbing another juvenile at Fashion Square Mall on Aug. 18. Three additional juveniles were arrested for assaulting another juvenile on Aug. 21 at the McDonald's near Granite Reef Road and McDonald Drive. Police say that no one was seriously injured during any of these incidents, and the identities of the juveniles will not be released. (NewsBreak, Scottsdale Police Department via Facebook)
- A 60-foot pine tree fell over in a South Scottsdale neighborhood following recent rains and strong winds. The roots pulled the concrete base of the homeowner's back wall apart, and the large tree fell down onto her neighbor's roof. Fortunately, no one was injured. (Arizona's Family)
- Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West is seeking volunteers to serve as storytellers of the American West. The expectations of those interested in serving as docents include: "a minimum of two, three-hour sessions per month, ability to do independent research on our current and upcoming exhibitions, ability to attend education training on new exhibitions, [and] ability to comfortably lead various group tour sizes." If you are interested, please contact Wade Weber, director of education, at 480-530-3461 or wweber@westernspirit.org. (Subscription: Daily Independent)
