Brush Fire Breaks Out Near Tempe Marketplace

A large fire sparked near Tempe Marketplace on Monday morning shut down one lane of the Loop 202 freeway, officials said.

TEMPE, AZ — A brush fire sparked up near Tempe Marketplace early Monday morning.

The fire was blazing as of 5:40 a.m. near McClintock Road and Rio Salado Parkway in Tempe, by the Loop-202 Freeway. Several Tempe Fire Department crews were on hand to put it out.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said that the firefighters had "quenched the blaze" around 6 a.m.

One lane of the eastbound freeway was closed due to its proximity to the fire Monday morning but has since reopened.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
