AZ Border Patrol Agent Stabbed, Fatally Shoots Suspect

A Nogales border patrol agent was stabbed after arresting a group of immigrants Monday night and airlifted to a Tucson hospital.

TUCSON, AZ — A borer patrol agent was stabbed and fatally shot the suspect while patrolling on foot in Nogales Monday, officials from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency said.

The attack occurred at approximately 7 p.m. after the agent arrested a group of immigrants who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally, a border patrol spokesperson told Patch. One of them was armed with a knife.

"The Border Patrol Agent sustained multiple stab wounds, but was able to fire his sidearm and fatally shot the assailant," Rob Daniels said.

Several agencies responded to the scene, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office. The agent was airlifted from the scene by CBP Air Relations and flown to a hospital in Tucson to treat his wounds. He was eventually released from the hospital.

No other information was immediately available, including the identity of the agent or the person killed. The FBI is leading an investigation into the incident.
