Border Patrol Agent Dies During Southern Arizona Patrol

Border Patrol agent Robert Hotten was found unresponsive Sunday in the area of Mt. Washington while on patrol. He died shortly thereafter.

TUCSON – A 10-year Border Patrol veteran died Sunday while on duty along Arizona’s border, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency reported. According to azcentral.com, Border Patrol's Tucson Sector reported that 44-year-old Robert Hotten was alone on patrol, typical for border agents, when other agents located him in an unresponsive condition close to Mount Washington.

The agents then administered medically to Hotten, who was airlifted to where an ambulance was waiting. He was then taken to a Nogales area hospital. A Tucson Sector spokesman said Hotten was pronounced dead somewhere along that chain of events.

Though the cause of Hotten’s death isn’t clear yet, foul play has been ruled out, according to the border patrol spokesman.
