Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Shut Down Due To Suspicious Package

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base near Tucson closed its security checkpoint Thursday morning after a suspicious package was found on a truck.

TUCSON, AZ — Davis-Monthan Air Force Base closed its security checkpoint Thursday morning after a suspicious package was detected on a truck that made its way through the gates.

A spokesperson for Davis-Monthan, near Tucson, told Patch that a suspicious package was found at 7:30 a.m. at the base's Swan Gate checkpoint and safety precautions were immediately enacted.

"Safety procedures were enacted, and the Tucson Police Department and the 355th Civil Engineer Squadron’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal flight were notified," Lt. Dorothy Sherwood, spokesperson for the base, said. "Both are currently on scene."

Officer Frank Magos, spokesperson for the Tucson Police Department, said officers were on the scene to help with traffic control. He said he was not aware of the outcome of anything that happened on base.

By 10 a.m., the Craycroft and Swan gates were operational once again but the South Wilmot gate was closed.
