Household Hazardous Waste, Shredding Event On Saturday In Tucson

TUCSON, AZ — Tucson residents can drop off household hazardous waste and paper documents for shredding this Saturday, Feb. 12 at the city's next collection event.

The event is set for 8 a.m. to noon at the Pima College West Campus, 2202 W. Anklam Road, according to a news release.

The city's Environmental and General Services Department hosts these events on the second Saturday of each month.

Tucson residents can drop off household hazardous waste, electronic waste, up to three boxes of documents for shredding and glass bottles and jars for free.

Tucson residents must have proof of address to receive the services for free. Residents of Marana, Oro Valley, Sahuarita and unincorporated Pima County will be charged a $10 fee to drop off items, according to the news release.

City residents can also drop off household hazardous waste at the Los Reales Sustainability Campus at 5300 E. Los Reales Road from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The Los Reales drop-off area will not be open during Saturday's collection event.

Home pick-up for household hazardous waste was suspended in Tucson because of the pandemic.

• Auto batteries
• Rechargeable batteries (please separate types of batteries)
• Small button batteries
• Lithium batteries
• Cleaning products
• Drain openers
• Cooking oil (strain out food and bring in plastic container)
• Products that contain mercury
• Fluorescent lamps and bulbs
• Paint products (no dried paint)
• Solvents
• Hobby chemicals
• Pesticides
• Lawn and garden products
• Pool chemicals
• Propane cylinders
• Computer equipment (Cathode Ray Tube monitors are not accepted)
• Printer cartridges
• Items labeled: Acid, flammable, caustic, poison, caution, toxic, danger or warning

Not accepted at the event:

• Business or commercial waste
• Commercial gas cylinders
• Explosives or ammunition
• Infectious and radioactive waste
• Medical waste such as sharps, syringes or old medications.
• Televisions and CRT Monitors
• Dried paint or empty paint containers
• Alkaline batteries (throw in your regular trash)
