Man Accused Of Prompting SWAT Response Faces Several Charges

The area of Broadway and Columbus in Tucson was evacuated for several hours after the man was accused of making some sort of threat.

TUCSON, AZ — The man accused of causing a huge police response and an evacuation of the area around the intersection of Broadway and Columbus boulevards Wednesday afternoon in Tucson is facing several felony charges, according to Tucson police.

Floyd Cruz Harris, 29, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of auto theft, burglary, weapons misconduct and making felony threats or intimidation, Tucson police said.

He remained in custody in the Pima County Jail as of Thursday, with bond set at $20,000.

The area around Broadway and Columbus was evacuated for several hours Wednesday after Harris is accused of making some sort of unspecified threats that prompted a response from the Tucson Police explosive ordnance disposal team, SWAT and hostage negotiators.

No one was injured, police said.

Tucson police said they first encountered Harris on Wednesday afternoon because they suspected him of stealing a car.
