Man Charged In Downtown Tucson Deadly Shooting

TUCSON, AZ — A man was charged in connection with a carjacking and deadly shooting in downtown Tucson Saturday morning, Tucson police said.

Mark Edward Doe, 52, died in the shooting, which occurred inside a parking garage near East Congress Street and Toole Avenue just after 2 a.m., according to police.

Luis Alberto Garcia, 21, was charged with first-degree murder, six counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, four counts of robbery, auto theft and felony vandalism, police said.

Garcia is currently being held in the Pima County Adult Detention Complex, and no bond has been set, according to police.

If convicted, Garcia faces a maximum penalty of either life in prison, with or without parole, or the death penalty on the first-degree murder charge.

Additionally, Garcia faces between seven and 21 years in prison for each of the three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm; between five and 15 years in prison for each charge of aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon; between one and 3.7 years in prison for each charge of robbery; and between 2.5 and 10 years in prison on the auto theft charge.

Garcia was arrested without incident at 6 a.m. in a hotel near East Wetmore Road and North First Avenue, police said.

Detectives were still working to identify a second suspect in the carjacking and deadly shooting.
