TUCSON, AZ — Wednesday morning a man was found dead at the Pima County Superior Court building in downtown Tucson. Later that afternoon, Pima County Sheriff Mark Napier provided a few more details at a press conference, including the identity of the man.

The deceased was identified as Brian Krumm, a corrections officer and 13-year sheriff’s department veteran, found with a fatal gunshot wound in a secure courthouse area. “At the time (of the incident), [Krumm] was in a secure area that was not accessible to the public. We believe at that time he was alone and that this was not the result of felonious contact he had with an inmate or another party,” Napier reported. “There were several corrections officers there within seconds of the incident, but the injuries to our corrections officer were fatal.”

The sheriff’s department has no suspects, and many details are still unknown. “When we know what occurred and we are sure of the facts, we will release them to the media. It is an incredibly sad day for the department,” Napier added. A lockdown at the courthouse has been lifted.
