Pedestrian Killed In Double Hit-And-Run In Tucson: Police

Two vehicles hit a pedestrian trying to cross Stone Avenue on New Year's Eve, and police say both vehicles immediately drove away.

TUCSON, AZ — A 49-year-old pedestrian died from his injuries on New Year's Eve after two vehicles struck him in rapid succession as he attempted to cross Stone Avenue that evening, according to Tucson Police. Both vehicles immediately left the scene without stopping, police said.

The pedestrian, Manfred G. Rivas, was taken to Banner University Medical Center where he died from his injuries, Tucson Police said in a news release.

Rivas was trying to cross North Stone Avenue in the 3200 block when a white vehicle headed north hit him, according to police. The white vehicle continued on driving north without stopping, while moments later a second vehicle hit Rivas as he lay in the roadway and continued driving without stopping as well.

Police are looking for leads on the vehicles and their drivers who left the scene. Tucson Police ask that anyone with information about the incident call 88-CRIME.
