TUCSON, AZ — The Pima Animal Care Center took in 108 dogs just last weekend, according to Director Monica Dangler. That made for a total of 485 dogs in the PACC shelter alone as of Monday, and that doesn't include the hundreds of animals in foster care on the shelter's behalf. Many of the dogs are in non-public kennels because of crowding, and the shelter has lots of puppies with parvovirus who are looking for foster homes where they can complete their treatment, Dangler said in a video posted to PACC's social media. PACC is currently offering <a href="https://webcms.pima.gov/cms/one.aspx?portalId=169&amp;pageId=991" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">free adoptions</a> and is waiving most of its reclaiming fees. Beyond fostering or adopting, Dangler said that the most helpful thing local can do is try to find the owner themselves if they come across a healthy and friendly stray. Dogs who've gotten away from their homes are usually find nearby, she said. Around 85 percent of dogs that come to PACC will never be reunited with their owners, Dangler said. There are hundreds of dogs available for adoption and foster at PACC, and even fostering a pet for just a couple of weeks is helpful. Some just need a quiet space in which to recover from an illness or injury, or the shelter needs to know a little more about the pets needs and personality to help find them the right forever home.
