New bishop named to lead Tucson diocese (tucson.com) — Tucson’s Catholic community will soon welcome a new leader, as Pope Leo appoints Texas priest James Misko the eighth bishop of the Diocese of Tucson, with ordination set for Feb. 20. He’ll succeed Archbishop Edward Weisenberger, with Bishop Gerald Kicanas continuing as apostolic administrator until Misko takes over the nine-county Southern Arizona diocese.

2. Arrest made in fatal Tucson crash; driver faces murder charge (kvoa.com) — Tucson police have arrested a 19-year-old driver on a second-degree murder charge after a high-speed crash on South Sixth Avenue earlier this month killed 33-year-old Oscar Pedro Salazar. Investigators say excessive speed in a Ford Mustang caused the collision, and they’re still gathering evidence. Anyone with information is urged to contact Tucson Police or call 88-CRIME anonymously.

Busy holiday travel season hits Tucson International Airport (kvoa.com) — Holiday travel is surging through Tucson International Airport, with about 14,000 passengers a day expected and the heaviest crowds on December 28 and 29. If you’re flying, airport staff urge you to arrive early, keep gifts unwrapped for TSA inspection, and follow the 3.4-ounce liquid rule to avoid delays.

Tucson artist's mural vandalized on 4th Avenue (kold.com) — A well-known Tucson mural by local artist Joe Pagac on North Fourth Avenue was recently vandalized, leaving him with more than $5,000 in repair costs and a week of repainting. Tucson police arrested a 30-year-old suspect at the scene and say restitution could help cover expenses. Neighbors and the artist alike are leaning on Tucson’s strong support for its mural scene.

'Until there is no longer a list:' Memorial honors 250 of Tucson's homeless who died this year (tucsonsentinel.com) — Tucson community members gathered at Evergreen Mortuary to honor 250 homeless neighbors who died this year, including 68 who remain unidentified. Organized by the Tucson-based Primavera Foundation, the annual ceremony highlights the growing local impact of homelessness and evictions, and calls for broader community support as agencies expect an even tougher year ahead.
