Police: 1 Driver Dead After Another Runs Red Light At I-10 & 29th

One Tucson motorist is dead after another ran a red light Wednesday morning at the I-10 Frontage Road and 29th Street intersection.

TUCSON, AZ — Tucson police said that a man died from a crash Wednesday after another motorist sped through a red light at W. 29th Street and the I-10 Frontage Road.

Tucson Operations Division South officers were called to the intersection about 4:45 a.m. on a reported serious-injury vehicle crash. Tucson fire medics also arrived at the intersection and immediately started to administer medical aid to both drivers. However, one driver, Irenio Parra-Neriz, 63, was pronounced dead at the accident’s scene. The other driver was taken to Banner University Medical Center with injuries not deemed life threatening.

Back at the intersection, Tucson traffic detectives undertook an investigation. The roadway evidence and interviews they conducted helped police determine that Parra-Neriz was headed west on 29th Street in a Ford F-150 pickup truck and entered the intersection when the light was green. However, at the same time, the driver of a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck was headed north on the I-10 Frontage Road. Police said the Avalanche driver “failed to stop for the red light and collided with the F-150 at a high rate of speed.”
