TUCSON – Raytheon Missile Systems announced Wednesday that the company will bring more than 1,000 new jobs to Tucson during the next three years. The impetus behind Raytheon’s planned expansion is to keep up with its weapons-systems market demands, according to company officials. The new workers will work in engineering or similar areas and earn salaries in the “six-figure range,” Stephen duMont, a Tucson Raytheon VP, told the Arizona Daily Star.

The Tucson Raytheon jobs expansion arrives in addition to 2,000 new jobs already added and significant facilities buildout at Raytheon’s main Tucson International Airport campus since 2016. Named the state’s eighth largest employer on The Arizona Republic’s AZ Data Central listings, Raytheon already has about 13,000 Tucson employees. Consequently, Raytheon’s growth has a significant economic impact on Arizona. That impact is $2.6 billion per year, as reported in a new Arizona State University Seidman Institute study that took into account Raytheon’s taxes, salaries, 500 Arizona suppliers and other metrics. The study also said that Raytheon’s yearly statewide economic impact has increased in the past three years by more than $500 million.
