Tucson Man Arrested Safely After 8-Hour Standoff With Police

TUCSON, AZ —A man was arrested late Thursday or early Friday in Tucson after barricading himself in a home during an eight-hour standoff with police, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Authorities said Michael Anthony Caylor, 38, was taken into custody safely by DPS SWAT at a family home located in the 600 block of S. Pinta Avenue. Caylor faces charges related to vehicle theft, in addition to possible charges related to the standoff.

DPS said its Vehicle Theft Task Force had gone to the home to serve a search warrant in order to recover a stolen vehicle.

During the standoff, officers at the scene told KOLD that the suspect might be armed with a semi-automatic rifle. However, DPS did not confirm what type of weapon the suspect had, or even that he was armed.

KOLD reported that in addition to the SWAT surrounding the house, a helicopter was seen circling overhead. The station also reported that loud bangs were heard inside the home at around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Tucson Police Department officers also were at the scene for traffic control.

DPS said Caylor faces charges for theft of means of transportation along with two counts of 3rd-degree burglary. Additional charges are pending, the agency said.
