Tucson PD Starts ‘Hot Spot Policing’ To Target High-Crime Areas

TPD has started "hot spot policing," focusing on Tucson areas with the highest violent crime and traffic accident rates the previous week.

TUCSON, AZ — Preventing vehicle collisions and fighting crime will always be a priority for officers in the Tucson Police Department. To that end, the TPD’s new “hot spot policing” strategy provides more policing in the areas it’s most needed.

Starting with Tucson’s westside for now, hot spot policing targets parts of town that have the largest number of traffic violations and the highest violent crime statistics. Police squads of up to eight officers are sent to new hot spots designated weekly, based on the previous week’s statistics.

Hot spot policing will be implemented citywide after more officers are trained in the strategy. Read more at KGUN.
