Tucson Police Dog Shot On Duty Back At Work

A Tucson Police Department K-9 named Tango was shot in the leg Sept. 3 while chasing a suspect and was able to help officers arrest him.

TUCSON, AZ — A Tucson Police dog shot in the line of duty is back at work, cone and all.

Tango, a Tucson Police Department K-9 was shot twice in the leg Sept. 3 while chasing an armed robbery suspect. He's now back on "light duty," according to a Facebook post from the police department's K-9 division.

According to local news outlet KOLD, light duty means Tango will help with detection training and will do some exercise.

The Sept. 3 incident occurred near Midvale Park and Headley Roads around 11 p.m. Police located a suspect wanted in connection with armed robbery and moved to arrest him. The suspect began firing his gun as he ran from officers, shooting Tango twice in the leg. Despite his injuries, the dog managed to chase the suspect down and assist police in his arrest.

The suspect was also injured after police returned fire during the chase and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He now faces multiple felony charges.
