Tucson Student Earns Phi Kappa Phi ‘Love of Learning’ Award

A Tucson student has been presented with a 2019 Phi Kappa Phi "Love of Learning" award.

TUCSON – Bradley Shane, a student from Tucson attending the University of Arizona, was recently presented with a Phi Kappa Phi “Love of Learning” award. Shane, a U of A College of Medicine student will use the $500 award to present research at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology. He will also use it to buy supplies for Tucson community concussion and stroke prevention outreach.

Shane was among 200 Love of Learning award recipients, who were chosen based on academic accomplishment, intended fund use, community and campus service, and a submitted personal statement.

Shane became a Phi Kappa Phi member at the U of A in 2014. Phi Kappa Phi membership is only by invitation and includes the top 10 percent of graduate students and seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors. The society “recognizes and promotes academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engages the community of scholars in service to others,” according to the Phi Kappa Phi website.

Phi Kappa Phi was created in 1897 and has chapters at 300 North American and Philippine universities and colleges. Alumni, professional staff and faculty members “who have achieved scholarly distinction” are also inducted into the society of 30,000 members.
