TUSD Receives Largest Donation Ever For Students, Families
Streams in the Desert Lutheran Church and Alight's 800-case new clothing donation arrived at TUSD facilities this week.
TUCSON – Streams in the Desert Lutheran Church of Tucson and humanitarian organization Alight recently donated 800 cases of new clothing to the Tucson Unified School District’s Family Resource Centers and Clothing Bank for students and families in need. The clothing from Red Shirt and League 91 arrived at TUSD facilities this week.
“This is a tremendous gift to our students and families. Our clothing banks are stocked entirely with donated items, and the community has been extremely generous over the years in helping to keep our clothing banks going,” wrote a TUSD spokesperson in a news release. “We rarely receive new clothing, and we have never received such a large donation. Now we’ll be able to provide a large variety of high-quality new clothing to students and families, many who might not otherwise be able to afford it, free of charge.”
The next step is for volunteers to label, sort and organize the new donated clothing at TUSD’s Howenstine School at 555 S. Tucson Blvd. on Friday. TUSD will provide “a special recognition” for volunteers and donors Friday at Howenstine too.
