Watch Tucson Fire Department Rescue Man From Palm Tree

The man was in the tree performing routine trimming when things went wrong.

TUCSON, AZ – It's the tree-trimmer's equivalent of being up the river without a paddle. On Wednesday morning, a man trimming a palm tree in Tucson found himself up the tree without a rope.

Tucson firefighters responded around 7 a.m. to the tree by Harrison Road and 29th Street.

Two firefighters climbed the ladder of a firetruck to get up to the man and attach cables to him.

As they cut away some of the tree's fronds, the man can be seen falling backwards. Fortunately, he was attached to the cable. (Get Tucson Patch's daily newsletter and real-time news alerts. Or, find your local Patch here and subscribe).

The man then pulled himself back up and was able to climb down the ladder.

He did not need to be transported to the hospital.

In a lucky bit of timing, firefighters had just undergone tree rescue traning last week. The fire department says that video of the rescue will be used in future training sessions.
