Here are the top three stories in Yuma today:

  1. The Reclamation of Yuma Area Office is struggling to move water around during the ongoing water issues. The state is currently in its 27th year of a long-term drought that has caused water levels to fall to record lows. The office is tasked with ensuring that the area's water supply is effective and efficient to preserve water while ensuring its availability. (KYMA)
  2. The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management is implementing Stage 2 fire restrictions for Yuma County's State Trust Lands. The restrictions ban the use of campfires and outdoor smoking while putting limitations on mechanized tools. Click for a full breakdown of Stage 2 fire restrictions. (Arizona Emergency Information Network)
  3. COVID-19 infection rates climbed this last week in Arizona. Despite the statewide increase, Yuma County actually experienced a decline. According to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, Yuma County had 34 cases last week compared to the previous week's 39. Since the pandemic began, Yuma County has had 62,829 positive cases with 1,183 deaths. (AZ Central)
